The aim of the Alliance
The aim of the Alliance is to establish a co-ordinated research grouping and a joint Graduate School with the critical mass to compete with the top US and EU Universities. The Alliance is built on current high quality research in each of our departments (all RAE grade 5), and in 2007 has received initial funding from HEFCE of £4 million to develop the graduate school over the next five years and in 2010 received a further £3M for phase II of the Graduate School until 2015 involving the STFC areas – Astrophysics, Nuclear and Particle Physics.
